Week #1 Assignment #2

Welcome Everyone!!

I would like to start by saying "Welcome" to everyone! This is really my first experience with using a blog. I am really excited to get started and surprisingly, it hasn't been too difficult. I was very nervous getting started because computers are not really my thing. I can get on Facebook with the rest of 'em but, that's about as techy as I get.  This seems like a fun and interesting way for us to exchange information.

I will begin with telling you a little about myself. I am married and a mother of two boys, ages 18 and 11. As my boys have gotten older, I decided that it was time for me to complete a goal of mine from years ago. So, beginning last spring I returned to college. I am majoring in Psychology and hope to graduate at the end of next year. I also work and have a very active family with a busy sports schedule. It has been quite a balancing act. I am very motivated and determined to finish my degree. Initially, I returned to school with the hopes to get my degree and secure a better job. Now, I am so excited to embark on this journey and I see endless possibilities and careers versus jobs out there. I'd like to use my degree to help others. I am currently interested in a counseling role or position. I would ideally like to be a junior high guidance counselor or something similar.

As I have been studying psychology, many fields or areas have become so interesting. Particularly, forensic psychology. I really enjoy the way psychologist and other experts advice and work closely with law enforcement. There are so many career opportunities within the legal arena that I find this area very interesting and rewarding. I am also interested in working with adolescences, as I mentioned earlier.Particularly, high risk teens and youth. I would like to do some research on career opportunities in this arena as well as the benefits for young people. Does this type of work have an impact? Can counseling and mentoring change a young person's life? I think that young people can embrace change and can be motivated by the care and counsel of a stranger if needed.

I think that this week's lesson brings up many valid and interesting points. I am not surprised that most college graduates demonstrate poor writing skills when out in the workforce. I think that we have not had as great an emphasis on the importance of writing and how to conduct research properly. Plus, with access to the internet, plagiarism and other forms of copying is quite simple. We should be using the information for research purposes but, it is so easy and so available to simply copy others' work. I also believe that texting and other social media forms, deny young people the ability to write clear and concise sentences. Everything is abbreviated and auto corrected. At this rate, literature will continue to be a lost form. That is why classes like this one are so valuable. I look forward to learning how to properly site research. I want to improve my writing skills and possess confidence in my writing abilities. I know this class will only help me with that.

I look forward to viewing everyone's blogs! See you next week!
